Best of Leadership
Von Claudia Keller, Dezember 19, 2023
In today’s rapidly evolving world, continuous learning has become essential for personal and professional growth. In this blog post, I summarize the four different learning sessions from the first module of the CAS Women Leading Digital at HWZ which gave us participants insights into modern leadership skills. The four learning sessions explored different aspects of personal and professional development: Psychological Safety, Negotiating Excellence, Self-Management, and Unconscious Bias.
Psychological safety is a critical concept in today’s workplaces. It refers to an environment where individuals feel safe to take risks, voice their opinions, and make mistakes without fear of negative consequences. My key takeaway from the Psychological Safety Learning Session is that cultivating trust and managing conflicts constructively are essential to a psychologically safe workspace. Also, as a parent, I realized that the concept not only applies to the workplace but as a concept is also helpful for parents raising and empowering children.
When we think about it, negotiation is an everyday activity in both personal and professional life. From discussing a job offer to settling a dispute, or making a major purchase, effective negotiation is key. Negotiating excellence involves understanding the psychology behind it and developing a strategic approach. My key takeaway from the Negotiating Excellence Learning Session is come prepared and keep an open mind so you can handle objections gracefully and find mutually beneficial solutions (or in other words, enlarge the pie).
It is a challenge in today’s fast-paced world to find the right balance between work and personal life. Self-management skills are useful to manage your time effectively, set priorities, and in doing so reduce stress. My key takeaway from the Self-Management Learning Session is the importance of setting realistic SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound.
Unconscious bias refers to the automatic and unintentional judgments we make about others based on any given characteristic such as gender, race, age, etc. These biases can have a profound impact on workplace relationships and workplace culture as well as decision-making. My key takeaways from the Unconscious Bias Learning Session was that a truly inclusive leadership fosters a more diverse and equitable workplace and that diversity can only sustainably exist if there is also true inclusion leading to a sense of belonging.
During this first module on Leadership I realized that continuous learning is essential in this day and age that comes with a lot of challenges; socially, technologically and personally. For me, the four learning sessions — Psychological Safety, Negotiating Excellence, Self-Management, and Unconscious Bias — were the perfect start in to the CAS Women Leading Digital HWZ as they illustrated clearly that by investing in these areas, I can enhance my personal and professional growth, I can develop critical skills, and I can contribute to creating a more inclusive, productive, and fulfilling environment for myself and those around me, both in my professional and personal life.
